Palm Springs Airport Parking Logo

Palm Springs International Airport was formerly known as the Palm Springs Municipal Airport. It is located about 3 miles east of Palm Springs and was built in 1939 as an emergency landing field for the US Army Air Corps. Today, the airport serves ten airlines with non-stop flights to around twenty destinations all around the world. In 2011, The Smarter Traveler named PSP number 3 in America's Most Stress-Free Airports.

Palm Springs Airport Parking Options

Parking at Palm Springs airport is stress-free. Drivers are allowed to stop at the curbside for just a few minutes when dropping and picking up passengers. However, parking and leaving the car unattended at the curbside is not allowed.
The general parking lot at PSP airport is located across the terminal building. This is a convenient location both for passengers who are about to catch a flight and those who just arrived. The lot accommodates all types of vehicles, including RVs.
Short term and long term parking at Palm Springs Airport
Often, airport parking lots have separate lots for long term and short-term parking. This is not the case at PSP. Palm Springs airport long term parking is accommodated in the same lot as the general short-term parking. Even during the airport’s busiest times, the parking spaces in the lot are enough for both types of parking.

Palm Springs Airport Parking Rates

Palm Springs airport parking costs not much. For the first seven minutes, you are not charged a dime. Afterward, you will pay $2 for every 20 minutes after which you will have to part with $6 for every hour. Should you want to park your car for a more extended period, you will pay $20 for a twenty-four-hour period.
There are a variety of options when it comes to paying your Palm Springs airport parking fees. You can use the prepay kiosk as you get into the parking lot. Alternatively, you may decide to pay on your way out. Both credit cards and cash payments are accepted.
Palm Springs airport parking prices are quite affordable. However, you may want to take other options. Several cab services companies offer PSP parking coupons. City Cab is located a few minutes away from the airport. They also provide parking coupons that allow you to save quite a considerable amount of money. Mirage Taxi is another cab company located 8 minutes away from the airport. They also offer parking coupons for Palm Springs International airport parking.

Palm Springs Airport Special Parking Options

Here you will be allowed for two unique options.
·        Free Cell Lot
This lot is located off the Kirk Douglas way. If you are picking up some guests, you can park in the free cell lot and wait from your car. Have your guests call you once they have their luggage. You can then meet them by the front curb.
·        Mobility Travelers
Palm Springs Airport parking also caters for mobility-impaired travelers. Travelers who are being dropped off can have the driver stop at the curbside. A Skycap, a Traffic Enforcement Officer, or a representative of the airline, can then be called if assistance is needed.
Mobility impaired travelers without escort can park at available spaces for the disabled. These are usually closest to the terminal building, making it easier for them to carry luggage. If this is not possible, remain in the car after arriving at the front curb and request for assistance from a Skycap or a Traffic Enforcement Officer.

How Long Does It Take to Get Through Security at PSP?

It usually takes about 15 minutes to go through security at PSP. However, during busy times it can take up to 30 minutes. The reason it takes longer during busy times is that there are more people trying to get through the checkpoint, and the TSA agents have to screen each person individually.

The good news is that the TSA has been working hard to make the screening process faster and more efficient. So hopefully, in the near future, it won't take as long to get through security.

Why Is Palm Springs Airport Called PSP?

The airport is called PSP because it was built on the site of a former military base named Palm Springs Army Airfield. The name was changed to Palm Springs Municipal Airport in 1945, and then to Palm Springs International Airport in 1978.
